The Trip back to Trichy
The trip back to my Alma matter, to attend the graduation ceremony aroused a medley of emotions in me. Initially, I was excited about the trip as this was my first trip to Trichy after I passed out from the institute. But once I landed there, I suddenly felt that I did not belong there, the whole place looked like it was in a time warp – the predominant tenor of the place was ‘stillness’, which made me feel a bit claustrophobic. It seemed odd that I wanted to gaily relive the moments I spent in b-school and ended up feeling caught in a place I didn’t want to be in. I am in no way criticizing the place; it is just that my perspective has changed and I would rather keep that old memory of a place – sweet and away from the humdrum of urban life, alive in me!
Another reason I feel a bit downbeat about the whole visit is because, it was as if an era in my life had finally concluded. I had suddenly grown old! In the end, when I sit here back in Hyderabad looking back at the trip, I am happy about being a part of a worthy group of people.
Another ‘why’
While reading up on the recent reservation issue, I came across an article which got me onto a completely different thought train; one much closer to me. The report said that Ratan Tata went to IMT Ghaziabad for convocation. You might ask, “So what?”. Well, I still can’t forget my trip to that place in Feb of 2004!! How could such an institute manage to woo Ratan Tata for the convocation ceremony, while we can’t even convince Ramadorai to pay a visit to our institute, whose board he heads? Like many other questions, this one will also remain unanswered, I guess.
